Claran Martis
Claran Martis (he/him/his) is a 6th year PhD student from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department pursuing his research in electrical microgrids and sensor technologies. He has served the graduate student community being an active Senator in the GSO Senate and also as a Resident Assistant prior to holding this position. He now represents the graduate students in various university-wide committees bringing forward the collective opinions and concerns of graduate students.
As the president, he wishes to increase student engagement and create a better support system for all graduate students. Join him in his efforts to help students thrive by reaching out to him and his team about how they could help you go far beyond.

CHRISTINE WANG
Christine (she/her/hers) is a third year PhD candidate in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. She has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, NJ, and a Master’s degree in Physiology and Biophysics from Stony Brook University. Her dissertation project focuses on both basic and clinical science research in spinal cord injury.
As the Treasurer of GSO, she hopes to keep graduate students well informed of funding opportunities and how their fees are allocated. She will continue to work towards making reimbursement processes more streamlined and efficient, as well as create convenient access and easy-to-understand resources for students.
Speaker OF THE SENATE
Helena van Nieuwenhuizen
Helena (she/her/hers) is a third year PhD student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. As the Speaker of the GSO Senate, she is responsible for organizing and chairing monthly Senate meetings, organizing monthly legal advice clinics for the graduate student body, and hosting a yearly tax advice clinic. Helena also chairs two GSO committees: the Academic Affairs committee and the Rules and Constitution committee. She is committed to improving the experience of the graduate student body here at Stony Brook by helping students take advantage of all the University and the GSO have to offer them.
